Namaste!
What is Yoga?
The word yoga is often interpreted as meaning
union of the mind, body and spirit. It is not a religion,
but rather a spiritual science with a universal approach. It is practiced by
all kinds of people, regardless of their beliefs or abilities. There are eight
limbs of yoga, but most practice the third and fourth limbs: asana (physical
postures), and pranayama (breathing).
Whats in a Name?
The meaning behind Chinook Yoga is twofold. Yoga offers a
journey inward, not unlike the remarkable return of the Chinook salmon to its
place of birth. Many obstacles challenge our intuitive desire to find our
centre and fulfill our purpose. Homebound, the Chinook Salmon defies the odds,
leaping waterfalls and log jams.
The double entendre comes from the native Indian
Chinook, meaning warm, moist wind. Pranayama, a yogic breathing
practice, connects us to our core via our own animate, warm, moist wind.
I can't even touch my toes!
To begin a practice, all you need is a flexible mind! With
time and patience, flexibility will come.
